MANUFACTURING ENGINEER reporting to Engineering Manager

Qualitel is growing rapidly and is adding this senior manufacturing leadership position within the company to manage the growth in the number of teams and shifts.   Qualitel is looking for someone that understands lean manufacturing concepts and electronics manufacturing processes to improve Qualitel’s position in high reliability for product quality, delivery, and costs.   The following are the position’s key responsibilities and success factors:

Responsibilities:

  • Provide adequate tools and equipment to ease manufacturability. Support capacity/yield improvement initiatives.
  • Create manufacturing programs, profiles, work instructions, and tooling to support manufacturing releases/builds
  • Create/update/revise existing manufacturing procedures.
  • Interfaces with a cross-functional team for support with engineering related processes and products.
  • Ensure compliance with audit findings on a timely manner.
  • Provide engineering technical support to the operations / manufacturing processes
  • Develop and document Process Validations for all Qualitel automated manufacturing processes, and aid in Process Development of non-automated processes.
  • Work and implement engineering special projects as needed.

Success Factors                                                               

  • Release of manufacturing programs, profiles, work instructions, and tooling released are effective, ease of use, and efficient
  • Creation and release of manufacturing processes are thoroughly validated, effective, and all risks are addressed
  • Processes and work instructions/program created are efficient, accurate, and produces high quality yields

Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 2-5 years of electronics manufacturing experience
  • Lean Manufacturing experience required
  • Experience with ISO 9001 or AS9100 standards required
  • Experience with ISO 13485 experience preferred

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

QA INSPECTOR I:  Ensure paperwork is accurate (i.e. travelers, prints, Bill of Material, etc.) and of current revision.  Visually examine assembly using halo lamp or other appropriate Inspection Aids for conformance to specifications (i.e. IPC-610, J-STD-001 or customer specifications).  Successfully complete J-Std. Training and IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies Training.  Document results of inspection on log sheets.  Observe product as it is being assembled and verify key process points consistent with Standard Operating Procedures. 

QA INSPECTOR II:  In addition to the above duties, performs other Quality Assurance and Manufacturing support duties to include most or all of the following:  Perform prototype inspections.  Meet requirements of Assembler II (Skills Matrix).  Assist the Document Control/Quality System department as needed in the processing of documents that support the needs of manufacturing (i.e. Manufacturing Aids, Bill of Materials, ECO's, etc.).  Perform periodic equipment/systems checks (i.e. Static Sensor, ESD Grounding, Wrist Straps & Tester, etc.).  Perform maintenance of the Calibration System and of the SPC charts.

MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER I:  Under direct supervision, perform basic and routine electro-mechanical assembly operations.  Use tools such as drills, soldering guns, screwdrivers, measuring instruments, and other hand tools.  Follow verbal and written instructions such as drawings, assembly layouts, sketches and work instructions in completing highly repetitive tasks.

MECHANICAL ASSEMBLER II:  Under minimal supervision, exhibit skills in all pre-requisites for Mechanical Assembler I plus: Ability to perform a wider variety, more complex assembly and sub-assembly tasks.  Demonstrate ability to organize and set up work area to maximize efficiency and quality. Perform quality checks. May perform conformal coating.

Assembler I: Access and follow on-line documentation.  Prep components by hand or utilizing equipment per documentation.  Identify component values.  Pre-wave insert thru-hole components in pcb by hand. Hand-solder thru-hole components.   Verify work performed by your self and peers meet IPC standards.  Complete tasks within specified time or notify lead of inability to do so along with reason.

Assembler II: All functions required at Assembler I level.  Hand-solder SMT components.  Remove and replace thru-hole comp. without board damage.  Solder wires and cables.  Identify assembly and document issues.  Successfully complete J-Std. Training and IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies Training.

Assembler III: All functions required at Assembler I and II levels.  Remove and replace SMT components without board damage.  Perform SMT rework.  Provide back-up support for lead in their absence.  Write ECO to have assembly and document issues corrected.  Complete NCP form when non-conforming product is identified.  Successfully complete IPC-7711/IPC-7721 Rework and Repair of Electronic Assemblies Training.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

TEST TECH I: Must have the ability to identify and understand the basic function of various electronic components, such as resistors, capacitors, inductors, diodes, transistors, and IC's. Ability to operate basic Test Equipment (multi-meters, scopes, ATE's). Must demonstrate understanding of basic electronic theory (resistance, capacitance, Ohm's Law, etc.). Ability to perform basic troubleshooting of CCA failures caused by minor obvious manufacturing errors, such as solder bridges & opens, missing parts, backward components. Reports to Test Supervisor

TEST TECH II: Posses all the skills of Test Technician I as well as being able to demonstrate understanding of advanced electronic theory, such as amplifier gain, active and passive filter networks, Digital and logic circuitry, etc. Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot to the component level. Reports to Test Supervisor.

TEST LEAD: Posses all the skills of Test Technician I and Test Technician II as well as being able to direct the work of others per the instructions and plans given to them by a Supervisor. Ability to handle minor employee H.R. issues (disputes, discipline to company policies/rules,etc.).

  • Operate BGA Rework Equipment to remove and replace BGA & QFN components.
  • Create Reflow profile to remove and install BGA & QFN components using BGA Rework Equipment.
  • Ability to X-ray inspection of Rework devices to ensure quality of product.
  • Knowledge of Rework/Repair of PCB (Surface Mount and Thru-hole technology) to IPC 7711/7721 .
  • Knowledge of IPC-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Rework/repair PCB’s in accordance with a schedule to IPC-7711, IPC-7721.
  • Performs Rework/repair internal and external product to ensure PCB’s are reworked to the required customer and industry standards.
  • Contribute effectively to the team to ensure objectives are met.
  • Maintain scheduled workload within specified timescales.
  • Work with Supervisor/Manager and Support Staff to solve issues and implement changes as required; make process flow and other improvement opportunity recommendations.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
